The University of Sunshine Coast Basketball Club has signed NBL player Kouat Noi for the 2022 NBL1 North season.

The 201cm forward joins the Rip City men's team on a mission as he comes off contract from the Cairns Taipans.

The 24-year-old Sudanese-Australian, who finished second in 2020 NBL Rookie of the Year voting to NBA star LaMelo Ball, played three seasons for the North Queensland NBL outfit.

“I'm coming into this organisation, taking it very seriously,” Noi told Seven Sunshine Coast. “I’m trying to be the best player I can be and I’ve come here to help the organisation win a championship.”

Rip City men’s coach Nate Arousi says the marquee signing can defend any position and will be a scoring threat for the Sunshine Coast team.

“First and foremost, Kouat is a great guy and will not only fit in well but will add to the winning culture we have built at Rip City,” Arousi said.

“He has great size, is a proven NBL level scorer and provides us great flexibility with his ability to defend one through five on the floor.”

USC’s NBL1 season startfion April 30 with a road trip to Southern Districts. The first six rounds will be away due to Suncorp Super Netball but Rip City’s run home will be mostly at home.

Rip City are looking forward to the first home game on the 11th June vs Southern District Spartans.

The finals will be played in August-September after a 15-round regular season.
