The Rip City women fell to the Gold Coast Rollers 68-65 in a tightly contested game. The defensive woes were corrected this week against the Rollers with a strong defensive effort from the women, however it was the offence that failed to fire.
Maddison Rocci finished with 30 points on the game while Ashley Arlen finished with 15 points.
Carlie Smith grabbed a season high 18 rebounds and Liisa Ups provided a strong defensive effort. The road this weekend does not get easier for Rip City as the women will face defending champion Logan Thunder.
The Thunder boast the most difficult lineup to guard that Rip City have faced thus far with an emphasis on a balanced attack. Mikaela Ruef is off to one of the most impressive starts in the league, averaging 18 points and 18 rebounds a game while Ashley Taia averages 16 points per game, Chevannaha Paalvast scoring 15 points per night and Sigi Koizar rounding out the double digit scoring at 13 points per game.
The Logan women are coming off back to back wins against the Southern District Spartans and a 32 point win over the Darwin Salties.
In both games the defensive numbers are impressive for Logan holding their opponents to an average of 70 points per game.
The Rip City women will look to boost scoring output and get a more balanced scoring punch across the board.
The defensive effort from the Gold Coast outing will need to be on display as the women look to knock off the defending champions and secure their first win of the season. Watch the women at Bendigo Bank Cornubia Sports Park Centre or on the NBL1 website this Saturday at 6 p.m.
