The USC Rip City women dropped their round four matchup with defending champion Logan this weekend. The final score was unreflective of the tough fight Rip City put up as they pulled within four points in the final quarter, however a strong finish by the Thunder women pushed the defending champions through the finish line to ensure the win.

Ashley Arlen continued her good form with 24 points and 14 rebounds while Maddi Rocci finished with 27 points. Carlie Smith poured in 10 points and 9 rebounds while battling foul trouble and captain Liisa Ups finished with 9 points in a solid effort on the defensive end of the floor.

The story of this week were the turnovers for the women who committed 22 turnovers to Logan’s 10. Rip City will look to clean those up this weekend against Brisbane in round five.

Although the women have dropped each of their first four games to start, they have been competitive with the perennial powers of the league. Their round five matchup with Brisbane Capitals looks to be no different.

The Capitals boast a balanced punch on the offensive end, led by point guard Abby Cubillo who holds WNBL experience.

Cubillo is the engine to the Caps offence, averaging 23 points per game. Courtney Middap averages 12.5, Madison Woodford contributes 11 and Stephanie Collins rounds out the double digit scoring at 10.7 points per game.

The women will need to be switched on defensively and ensure they look after the ball as they

look to secure their first win of the season.

Rip City are looking forward to the first home game on the 11th June vs Southern District Spartans.

The finals will be played in August-September after a 15-round regular season.
