USC Rip City women’s and men’s NBL1 North teams have won their second straight home games at USC Sports Stadium on Saturday night.


Women: USC Rip City 74 def Brisbane Capitals 64


USC Rip City improved their record to 2-2 with a 74-64 win over Brisbane Capitals at USC Sports Stadium.


Down six with 9.08 left on the clock, Rip City went on a 20-4 run to close out the game as WNBL Canberra Capitals star Alex Delaney found her long range shot with two of her three three-pointers made in that stretch. The Rip City guard scored a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds.


Fellow WNBL player Carlie Smith, from the Adelaide Lightning, also scored six points in the run but did it the hard way with four points at the free throw line. The USC forward tallied 10 points, 14 rebounds double-double.


USC forward Bree Delaney (12 points) and guard Jasmine Forcadilla (10 points) also scored in double figures in the gritty win that saw Rip City outrebound the Capitals 59-45, have less turnovers (10-16), and make 21 of 31 free throw attempts.

Other Rip City contributors included captain Liisa Ups (four points, five assists and seven rebounds), guard Layla Prince (seven points, three steals), forward Meghan Ditchburn (three points, four rebounds), and centre Maddison Doorn (six points, five rebounds).


Brooke Blair (17 points) and Anna Cameron (10 points) top scored for the Capitals, while Stephanie Collins had five of the road team’s 11 blocks.


Rip City (2-2) travel to Townsville (5-2) on Friday night and play their next home game against Mackay Meteorettes on Sunday 27 June at 1pm.







Men: USC Rip City 107 def Brisbane Capitals 90


USC Rip City welcomed forward Tanner Krebs and guard Kyle Zunic with a 107-90 win over Brisbane Capitals at USC Sports Stadium.


In their debut games for Rip City, NBL Brisbane Bullets star Krebs and Winthrop graduate Zunic slipped into the USC starting line-up seamlessly.


Rip City shot 12 of 29 from beyond the arc, including five from Krebs and three from Zunic, compared to the Capitals 7 of 24 three-pointers made.


Rip City forward Eric McAlister (17 points, four steals) and guard Isaih Tueta (16 points, six assists) continued to put up big numbers for USC.


USC forward Louis Ilton chimed in with 14 points and three steals, while guard Riley Cordwell added four points and three rebounds.


Brisbane guard Nicholas Stoddart top scored for the visitors with 31 points, including 3 of 9 from the perimeter, while Bullets guard Tamuri Wigness added 13 points in his first game for the Capitals.


The Capitals sent USC to the line 29 times with the home side shooting at 79.3%.

Rip City (2-2) travel to Townsville (5-2) on Friday night and play their next home game against Mackay Meteors on Sunday 27 June at 3pm.
