The University of Sunshine Coast Basketball Club welcomes back WNBL Southside Flyer and Australian Opal Maddy Rocci for the 2022 NBL1 North season.

The 2020 state league and Rip City MVP will be back in black for USC in what is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the point guard.

Rocci is currently in Belgrade, Serbia, as she prepares to make her Opals debut at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament from 10-14 February.

The tournament will identify seedings for the World Cup in Sydney in September.

”It’s a massive year for me this year,” Rocci said, “I think personally my next goal ahead of me would be making the World Cup team to play on home soil. Bigger picture would definitely be the 2024 Olympics.”

Coach Jamie Glover said the USC facilities and the supportive club will provide Rocci the base to set her up for further development and success.

Rocci said Rip City is always “super supportive" in helping her achieve her goals.

“I did miss you all a lot, I have so many friends that I can’t wait to play with again, as well as playing in front of the Rip family,” she said.

“The goals for this NBL1 North season would definitely be competing for that championship but also I can’t wait to help develop and lead all the younger kids involved in the program.”

USC’s NBL1 season starts in April with the first six rounds on the road due to Suncorp Super Netball but Rip City’s run home will be mostly at home.

Rip City are looking forward to the first home game on the 11th June vs Southern District Spartans.

The finals will be played in August-September after a 15-round regular season.
