After a short-handed women’s side fell to the Brisbane Capitals last week, they will look forward to the northern road trip against Rockhampton and Mackay as they search for their first win of the season.

Against Brisbane, Ashley Arlen (23 points, 12 rebounds) and Carlie Smith (20 points, 9

rebounds) starred for the women in valiant efforts to get the team over the line. The recurring theme for the women in this one was the struggle with turnovers, as they committed 25 on the evening. The good news— defensively they forced 18 turnovers and held the Caps to 75 points.

With a bolstered squad, look for the women to continue improving.

This Friday the women will face off against the Cyclones in Rockhampton. Led by guard

Jannon Otto, who is averaging 23 points per game, the women will have a tall task defensively as they look to cut off the scoring punch she provides. Maddison Torresin and Lara McSpadden both come in averaging 12 points per game a piece as Heidi Freeburn is the engine the drives the Cyclones, veraging 5 assists per game. With a record of 2 wins and 4 losses, the Cyclones will present a balanced attack for the women as they search for their first win.

On Saturday night, Rip City will move on to Mackay to face the 4-1 Meteorettes. Led by

imports Alexa Hart and Alisa Jenkins, the Meteorettes will look to use their size successfully as they have all season. With the return of Miela Goodchild from the American college system, the Meteorettes will look to continue their winning ways against Rip City. With a lineup at full strength, Rip City women will look to play the spoilers on the second night of a back to back of the toughest weekend yet.
