Sunshine Coast lures Tasmanian talent to join Rip City

The University of Sunshine Coast Basketball Club has signed Tasmanian guard Joe Chilcott for the 2022 NBL1 North season. The 25-year-old, who has played eight seasons for the North-West Thunder, has migrated north for the winter.

Chilcott said the goal was to be in a NBL1 North playoff contender and the Sunshine Coast lifestyle was an added bonus. “I love the way the teams plays after watching them from last year,” he said. “I thought I could be another piece to help the team make another push deep into playoffs.

“Being from Tassie, (the attraction) has to be the weather combined with the beautiful beaches.” USC’s NBL1 season starts in April with the first six rounds on the road due to Suncorp Super Netball but Rip City’s run home will be mostly at home.

Rip City are looking forward to the first home game on the 11th June vs Southern District Spartans. The finals will be played in August-September after a 15-round regular season. To see all of the NBL1 North games live or for more info on the league go to
